BERLIN REDUX - Lost and Found
Featuring :
Jimi Billingsley,
Karsten Konrad,
Marc Lueders.
Exhibition :
June 13th – July 11th
Berlin Redux is an exhibition about old things and places of Berlin that have been revisited by the participating artists, then transformed, re-contextualized and reconfigured.
The distinct aura of entropy that suffuses the materials and subjects: the disintegrating murals of the Berlin wall (Lueders), the defunct and over grown amusements of Treptow’s Spree Park (Billingsley), and the discarded refuse and furniture of the Berlin streets (Konrad); evokes the passage of time. Each artist takes something that’s time has passed, and conjures a vital reality from it, simultaneously rooted in history, and all together new. The contrast of old and new in this recycling process conveys an emotional substantiveness to the viewer, and while the works of these artists intrinsically celebrate the weight of time, their vibrancy and inventiveness refreshingly lighten the effect.
